How Long Do Lip Injections Last?

Lip injections with filler by a skilled, certified injector can give completely natural, beautiful results for patients looking to restore lost volume in their lips or just enhance fullness. Some dermal fillers can also be used to fill in peri-oral lines (smoker lines) as well to restore the full mouth area. So how long do lip injections last?

It depends on the dermal filler that both you and your injector determine is best for you. There are many great options on the market today for lip augmentation. Here at Utah Facial Plastics, our injectors typically use one of three different fillers from the Juvederm family from Allergan. Once you purchase a syringe, you can come back for more for up to a year at no extra charge if the full amount isn’t used at your initial treatment.

Volbella XC (0.5 mL syringe)

Juvederm Volbella costs $375 per syringe and lasts approximately one year. Volbella is formulated and FDA approved for the fine lines around the mouth as well as lip augmentation. It provides more of a subtle result and is used for what we refer to here at UFP as a “Baby Lip Plump”.

Juvederm Ultra XC (1.0 mL syringe)

Juvederm Ultra costs $560 per syringe and often times the full amount isn’t used at the initial treatment, depending on how full you want your lips. Our injectors love Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus because the molecules are water soluble and provide a nice “plump” to the lips that is very smooth. Juvederm Ultra last approximately 6 months.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC (1.0 mL syringe)

Juvederm Ultra Plus costs $610 per syringe is just a thicker version of Juvederm Ultra, for patients wanting more fullness. This products lasts 6-9 months on average.

Vollure XC (1.0 mL syringe)

Vollure is a newer hyaluronic acid filler on the market with a similar molecular make up to Volbella but the molecules are bigger. The cost is $650 per syringe. It’s formulated for the nasolabial folds (smile lines) but can be used in the lips. Vollure is great because it lasts 18 months but isn’t as water soluble as Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, so our injectors sometimes still prefer those options. It’s best to consult with your injector to determine what’s best for you!

The XC means there is lidocaine in the syringe as well to help minimize pain. Other products that can be used for lip augmentation include Restylane, Restylane Silk, Restylane ReFyne, and Belotero.

The great thing about all these hyaluronic acid fillers is that collagen is stimulated and overtime, some of the results become permanent.
