We all know Botox works great for smoothing facial wrinkles. But did you know it can also prevent them from ever forming? More people are starting Botox younger to prevent wrinkles vs. correcting them. In 2019 users between the ages of 20-39 made up for more than 20% of Botox treatments being done. The newer generation is taking care of their skin more, getting facials and taking preventative measures to stay youthful.
By starting Botox treatments earlier in your adult years, you can keep forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet from becoming etched into your skin. It’s much easier to prevent them than it is to smooth them once they are formed.
How Botox Works
Botox works by temporarily weakening or paralyzing certain muscles in your face that when used often, can leave you with deep lines and wrinkles. By using Botox preventatively, those muscles can learn not to make certain expressions as often so that overtime, less Botox is needed or just needed less often.
But you also don’t want to overdo it or spend more than you need to. It’s important to go to someone you can trust will only recommend the amount of units necessary for preventative purposes.
When To Start Botox
So at what age should you start? There’s no set age recommended to start preventative Botox but most patients are typically in their late 20’s or early 30’s when they do. Although it is different for everyone. We see patients in their 20’s with wrinkles that have already formed and patients in their late 30’s who are very smooth. It can be genetic or dependent on your facial anatomy and how often you form certain facial expressions. You may want to come in and treat crow’s feet that have already started to form and begin preventative botox for your forehead.
Another reason some will begin Botox early is for a bit of a brow lift. There are muscles in the face that lift up and some that pull down. Our skilled Botox injectors can carefully inject the muscles that pull down, lifting the brows a bit. While the lift is minimal, it can make the eyes more open and give you a fresher appearance.
Budgeting For Botox Treatments
Botox typically lasts 4-6 months so coming in twice per year for preventative purposes should suffice. There are many ways we help patients save on their Botox treatments. We often run specials on Botox and also help patients sign up for Alle and redeem their points that are received with each treatment. Points can also be accrued from Juvederm, Voluma, or Kybella treatments, as well as Latisse and SkinMedica purchases. Lastly, we can help you set up your own “Beauty Bank” with our office. With this program, you are able to determine a certain amount you would automatically like taken out of your account that adds up to cover your treatment by the time you come in. Utah Facial Plastics also offers some great membership plans to help you budget and save on all esthetic treatments along with skin care services.
