First Time Botox Tips

Are you noticing fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, forehead or between the eyebrows? It may be time to try Botox. For those who are new to Botox, there are always a lot of questions concerning treatment. Botox itself can sound a little intimidating, but in reality, it is actually a pretty quick and somewhat painless treatment.  We have compiled a list of the most common questions when considering Tox treatments.

When Will I See Results?

Botox is most commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), forehead, and between the eyebrows (glabella). The full effects of Botox can take up to 10 days to become completely apparent. Once the effects are fully apparent, you will notice that the wrinkles in the areas treated will soften and the muscles treated will not be able to contract.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Botox lasts approximately 3-4 months. Botox treatments require maintenance to maintain results, we recommend getting treated at least 2-3 times per year. Botox used to be considered a treatment primarily done by the rich and famous, but now millions of people are treated with Botox each year. At Utah Facial Plastics we offer services such as Beauty Bank or VIP Memberships to save money for treatments and receive discounts.

How Many Botox Units Do I Need?

The number of units you need depends on the area(s) of the face that is being treated and how strong that individual muscle is. Botox can be done conservatively, which can sometimes be a good place to start for new Botox users. If you feel like you need a bit more, more Botox can be added a couple weeks after your initial treatment.

Does Botox Hurt?

For most individuals, Botox treatments are minimally painful. Botox is injected gently with a tiny needle superficially into the muscle and most describe the treatment as slightly uncomfortable, but extremely tolerable. Botox treatments are also pretty quick, especially after you’ve been treated a couple of times by the same injector.

Are There Restrictions After Having Botox?

Following your Botox treatment, it is recommended that you do not rub or massage the areas that were treated. We also suggest waiting at least 24 hours before resuming any strenuous activity. It is also recommended that you do not lay down flat for at least 4 hours following a Botox treatment.

How Much Does Botox Cost?

The price of your individual treatment will vary based on what areas you have treated and how many units are needed. Currently in Utah the average cost of Botox per unit ranges is between $11-15 per unit. The amount needed averages between 20-60 units depending on the areas being treated, but it could be less or more. A consultation is recommended to discuss your concerns and go over a plan fit for you.

Does Botox Have Side Effects?

Just like any drug, Botox can have side effects. Immediately following a Botox treatment, it is normal for the treated areas to be slightly inflamed, red, or in some cases even slight bruising, which doesn’t last long. More serious but rare side effects include sudden pain, itching, change in skin color, if any of these occur it is important to contact your provider immediately.

Where Should I Have Botox Done?

Most of the serious but rare side effects occur when Botox is injected by an inexperienced injector. To avoid serious side effects, it is crucial to see an injector who is well-trained and experienced. You will find experienced injectors at reputable offices that have doctors onsite.
